Job Summary
Civil Construction Inspector role overseeing ongoing inspections across BC Hydro/Owner specifications; perform site visits at stop points during construction, ensure compliance with electrical utility underground construction standards, monitor contractor underground plans for safety standards, certify installations before energization, and contribute to constructability reviews and coordination with external inspection and survey work. Requires high school completion, civil inspection/survey training, Power Supply Safety Program within eight months of hire and re-certification every two years, plus 2–3+ years of utility construction and civil inspection experience. Role includes travel across British Columbia, outdoor work, and up to ~30 hours/week during peak periods (May–October) in a part-temporary, as-needed capacity. Perks and salary are commensurate with experience; hourly range provided.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic civil inspection or survey course
- Power Supply Safety Program (PSSP) course within eight months of hire; re-certification every 2 years
- Minimum 3 years of utility construction experience related to electrical utility underground construction (education-dependent)
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Civil Inspector or equivalent civil inspector experience in the utility industry
- Valid driver’s license
Additional Requirements
- Willing and able to travel throughout British Columbia
- Outdoor work in variable weather conditions
