Job Summary
Civic Data Director leads production of interactive mapping tools and static graphics for clients; directs quantitative and geographic analysis components for external research projects with complex data needs; develops design guidelines and oversees data processing tasks, data acquisition, and integration into databases; manages junior staff and ensures quality and accuracy; oversees data infrastructure improvements, database enhancements, and workflow automation; leads weekly code reviews and coordinates collaboration with IT, PolicyMap, and external support teams (e.g., ESRI); serves as subject-matter expert on civic data management and use; requires a U.S. Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience, with advanced SQL-based civic data analysis and research expertise; located in Philadelphia, PA with potential remote work 3 days/week but within commuting distance.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in City and Regional Planning, or related urban planning field
- 3 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation
- Advanced experience designing and executing geographic and statistical analysis within an SQL programming environment
- Experience identifying data infrastructure needs and implementing solutions within an SQL programming environment
- Experience bridging the needs and skills of technical, program, and business operations staff
- Advanced knowledge in applied research across multiple dimensions of community development such as housing markets, early childhood education, food access, and cultural institutions
