Job Summary
Lead City Attorney providing legal counsel to the City Council, City Manager, department directors, and various boards and commissions; oversee the City Prosecutor’s Office and litigation strategy; draft, review, and negotiate contracts, intergovernmental agreements, deeds, leases, ordinances, and resolutions; render legal opinions and advise on land use, code development, and municipal governance; represent the City in legal proceedings and supervise outside counsel; oversee budgeting, staffing, and performance of the City Attorney’s Office; stay current on laws affecting municipal operations and advise on regulatory compliance and risk management.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from a School of Law accredited by the American Bar Association
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with at least three of those years in a position of supervisory responsibility over attorneys or legal staff
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Arizona and membership in good standing in the Arizona State Bar Association (or reciprocal jurisdiction)
- Valid Arizona driver’s license at time of appointment
