Job Summary
Transcriber role focusing on translation, interpretation, transcription, and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS) for the Department of Justice. Responsibilities include translating documents and media (audio/video), handling materials with diverse subjects (legal, medical, financial, technical, military), performing court and deposition interpretation, and maintaining strict confidentiality for sensitive material. Requires ILR 3 minimum or equivalent, at least 3 years of language transcription experience, U.S. citizenship, English and foreign language fluency, expertise with CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio), and active Public Trust or higher clearance. Remote work option available with potential travel; location includes National Capital Region and CONUS locations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in language transcription
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent in listening, comprehension, and writing on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Proficient in using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with a strong emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication
- Know specialized vocabulary related to the Government’s varied roles and missions
- Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve the tone and register of source language materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
