Job Summary
Review, edit, and certify translations, transcriptions, and interpretations for DOJ Linguistic Support Services. Handle legal and technical content across diverse formats (documents, audio/video, emails, memos) with emphasis on accuracy, tone, and context in English and a foreign language. Must meet ILR 4 or equivalent, have at least five years of relevant experience, be a U.S. citizen, and have lived in the U.S. recently. Proficiency with CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio) and ability to manage sensitive, confidential information is required. Remote work is possible with Washington, DC (NCR) and CONUS locations; some travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- Must have at least 1 year of experience with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know vocabulary in formal, diplomatic, and casual modes in both English and foreign language
- Know specialized vocabulary related to Government’s varied roles and missions
- Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in using CAT tools, with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
