Job Summary
Chinese Mandarin Interpreter/Translator (CAT III) provides document translation, oral interpretation, transcription, and translation services for military training contexts. Duties include drafting correspondence, coordinating meetings, translating discussions between English and Mandarin Chinese, supporting field operations, traveling as required, and operating as part of a professional team over long workdays. Location options include Camp Smith, HI; Honolulu, HI; and Taipei, Taiwan. Requires certification proving language proficiency and ability to interpret in large group settings; active Top Secret clearance preferred; military experience is a plus. Travel may be required (OCONUS/CONUS).
Required Qualifications
- Must have experience and skill in Chinese Mandarin and English translating/interpreting, transcribing and documenting conversation
- Professional working proficiency in Chinese Mandarin and English
- Must have an industry recognized certification that proves you possess the language proficiency in order to satisfactorily support the resulting contract
- Must have experience providing consecutive interpretation services between English and Mandarin Chinese native speakers
- Must possess skills to quickly and effectively translate between Mandarin Chinese /English & English/ Mandarin Chinese in a large group setting while discussing one or more topics
- Shall have the familiarity with and ability to conduct oneself in accordance with the local culture and customs
- Shall have the ability to function as an integral member of a team
- Able to work for a minimum of eight (8) hours a day up to twelve (12) hours a day, five (5) days per week and may work on official holidays
