Job Summary
Conduct oral language interpretation support in formal meetings and office settings, utilizing native or near-native Chinese fluency and knowledge of foreign affairs, military affairs, and regional security vocabulary. Provide simultaneous or consecutive interpretation while preserving speaker nuance and terminology, then participate in prep and after-action meetings to type engagement notes. This engagement requires weekly to two-and-a-half-week deployments from Northern Virginia to East Asia with quarterly travel, including 30-60 days' notice. Candidates must hold active Secret clearance and possess five years of interpretation experience.
Required Qualifications
- Active in scope Secret clearance
- U.S. citizenship
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in interpretation
- Native or near native competency in Chinese
- Familiarity to the culture, media, and linguistic nuance of Chinese
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
- Valid US passport
- Ability to travel on an at least quarterly basis with 30-60 days' notice
- Ability to read, write, and speak Chinese at a fluent or native level
- Ability to provide interpretation support primarily in an office setting, including formal meetings
- Ability to support simultaneous or consecutive interpretation while preserving the nuance of speaker and terminology
- Knowledge of foreign affairs, military affairs, international security, and regional security issues and the associated vocabulary
- Ability to participate in prep and after-action meetings and type up notes related to engagements
- Ability to integrate into a customer team to provide primarily oral language interpretation support in formal meetings and an office setting
- Ability to engage with client personnel to understand and further mission
- Ability to work on a part-time basis
- Ability to work in Northern Virginia area
- Ability to work overseas
Desired Qualifications
- Active in scope TS/SCI clearance
- Recent standardized language testing scores, ideally within two years
- Familiarity to fluency in Taiwanese
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Foreign Affairs, International Politics, Military History, Chinese Studies, Interpretation, or similar
- Experience in the US intelligence, military, or cryptographic communities
