Job Summary

Assume responsibility for the classroom during Master Teacher absences, implementing a balanced, developmentally appropriate curriculum while conducting daily health checks. Support student teaching staff by addressing program concerns, modeling non-authoritarian teaching methods, and guiding interns through activity planning and conflict resolution. Maintain strict adherence to safety procedures, communicate daily with parents to support their parenting roles, and conduct parent-teacher conferences. Share responsibility for setting individual child goals, preparing assessments, and maintaining the classroom environment. Part-time, nonexempt role at the Children's Center with a minimum hourly rate of $25. Requires a BA/BS in Child Development, a Child Development Permit, and at least two years of experience teaching children under five.

Required Qualifications

  • BA or BS Degree in Child Development
  • Child Development Permit- At minimum Associate Level Permit
  • Must be able to complete at least 21 hours of professional development a year to maintain Child Development Permit
  • At least two years of experience as a teacher of children less than five years of age
  • Work effectively within a complex organizational setting and a multi-cultured campus environment
  • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious relationships within for students, staff, co-workers and the general public
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and staff
  • A thorough knowledge of child development principles, demonstrated through past study, training, experience and ongoing professional growth
  • Able to work under minimum supervision
  • Capable of giving clear written and verbal instructions
  • Capable of following verbal and written instructions
  • Dependable and timely
  • Able to listen to and objectively consider ideas and suggestions from others
  • Able to keep commitments; keep others informed of work progress, timetables and issues
  • Address problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions

  • Ability to use universal precautions in providing personal care
  • Required to sit and input into computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to safely carry and lift objects up to 30 lbs
  • Must be able to pass a urine drug screen
  • Upon hire employment history and criminal background investigation will be completed
  • May be required to drive occasionally as needed
  • Must pass a pre-employment T.B. test prior to commencing work
  • Must fulfill responsibilities of a CA Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse and sign ASI General Mandated Reporter form
  • Must provide completed health screen within 30 days of employment
  • Must provide proof of immunization from measles, pertussis and flu (Flu shot may be declined with written declaration)
  • College level class or professional training in Adult Supervision required within 1st year

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supervising adults in an Early Childhood setting highly desirable
