Job Summary
Lead and inspire an after-school program for 5–12-year-olds at Blue Ridge Elementary in Ararat, VA and at partner West Field locations. Plan and run daily activities, enrichment projects, homework support, and themed events; create a positive, inclusive environment; supervise and train after-school staff; implement curriculum and enrichment activities to ensure high-quality program delivery; ensure student safety and regulatory compliance; communicate regularly with families via the Playground App and support events; help with community outreach to engage prospective families; demonstrate enthusiasm, professionalism, and a solution-focused attitude. Requirements include age 21+, a child-related graduate degree or equivalent pathway with programmatic experience, supervisory or management experience, and credentials such as CDA, Montessori, or related early childhood certification; preferred CPR/First Aid certification; Virginia state regulatory screenings. Location-focused responsibilities include site leadership at the Blue Ridge Elementary School in Ararat, VA, and at West Field locations in North Carolina, with in-person work hours from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Graduate degree in a child-related field (e.g., education, child development, nursing, recreation) with a minimum six (6) months of programmatic experience
- Bachelor’s degree or endorsement in a child-related field with a minimum one (1) year of programmatic experience
- Forty-eight (48) semester hours or seventy-two (72) quarter hours from an accredited college or university, including at least twelve (12) semester hours or eighteen (18) quarter hours in child-related subjects, and a minimum one (1) year of programmatic experience
- Minimum two (2) years of programmatic experience, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory role
- One-year early childhood certificate consisting of at least thirty (30) semester hours
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent
- Certification from a recognized Montessori organization
- Management experience is defined as at least six (6) months in an administrative role involving supervising, orienting, training, and scheduling staff, OR completion of one of the following: one college-level business course, ten (10) clock hours of management training, or one child care management course covering planning, budgeting, staffing, and monitoring
- Must successfully complete all pre-employment screenings required by Virginia state regulations
- Current pediatric CPR/First Aid certification
