Job Summary
The Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in daily classroom activities, contributing to a nurturing educational environment for children. Key responsibilities include assisting in preparing the learning environment, managing classroom activities, ensuring the safety of children, supporting their developmental goals, and maintaining classroom cleanliness. Qualifications require a Child Development Associate (CDA) or equivalent educational credentials, effective communication skills, and the ability to engage with children. This role mandates a commitment to creating a safe and enriching educational experience.
Required Qualifications
- Child Development Associate (CDA); OR
- Associate degree (or higher) in any subject area; OR
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours in any subject area; OR
- State-awarded certificate comparable to a CDA approved by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE); OR
- High school diploma or equivalent, provided the individual earns a CDA within two years of initial date of hire as an assistant teacher at a child development center.
- Must pass a background check and health screening.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children, particularly in a daycare or preschool setting.
- Strong understanding of child development principles.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work cooperatively with both children and adults.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
