Childcare and Early Years Relief Worker

Job Summary
Childcare and Early Years Relief Worker provides hands-on support in programs under Children and Family Services (including Early ON Child and Family Centre, Headstart Childcare, Shelter Respite, Leaping Lizards, and Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program). Responsibilities include facilitating child-initiated and adult-supported experiences, fostering belonging and emotional well-being, promoting mental health through secure relationships, maintaining a safe environment, modeling positive guidance, implementing daily program plans, sharing team duties, supporting children with special needs, observing and recording progress, supervising volunteers, and planning menus per Canada’s Food Guide with consideration for dietary restrictions. Requires a Diploma in Early Childhood Education or comparable post-secondary education, experience in an early years setting, strong knowledge of child development and Ontario’s pedagogy, ability to work with diverse families, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, First Aid/CPR certification (asset), and physical ability to perform duties (lifting up to 50 lbs, outdoor work year-round). The position is on-call and paid hourly in the Ottawa, Ontario area.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education or comparable post-secondary education
- Experience working in an early years environment essential
- Experience in program planning and delivery in accordance to How Does Learning Happen
- Excellent knowledge of child development, emergent curriculum and Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years; How Does Learning Happen
- Experience working with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds in a community-based setting
- Experience and sensitivity working with all families including those in an urban core setting, culturally diverse, 2SLGBTQIA, young parents, etc...
- Organizational skills
- Interpersonal skills with both adults and children
- First Aid/CPR certificate an asset (required for Childcare)
- Experience in program planning
- Language skills in languages in addition to English are an asset
- Demonstrated ability and experience working with children with special needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children
- The physical demands analysis indicates ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors year-round
