Job Summary
Counselor I in Child Welfare provides assessment, prevention, and crisis intervention through home-based and family-focused support services. Responsibilities include managing up to 15 cases, conducting initial intake, delivering home-based services (assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, referral), maintaining therapeutic relationships, on-call coverage, court testimony, peer reviews, collaborative relationships with agency and community, administering and documenting in agency systems, planning/ presenting educational programs, supervising students, participating in PQ Process, and ensuring confidentiality, quality, and productivity. Travel with agency vehicle is required; position supports ongoing professional development and licensure assistance. Requires a degree in social work or related field with relevant experience; valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the region are expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services or related degree with 2-3 years of related experience, preferred
- Associate’s degree in human services or related degree with 2-3 years of related experience, required
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively and respectfully with a diverse service population
- Prior professional or academic experience in child welfare, family services, or community-based organizations
- Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Previous experience working with specific age groups (e.g., children or adolescents) as required by the program
- Flexibility to adjust work assignments and schedules, including evenings and weekends, to meet client needs
- Willingness and ability to travel within the assigned county and statewide
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that meets agency insurance requirements
- A consistent commitment to safe driving practices
