Job Summary
Paraprofessional role in special education providing direct support to a named assigned student. Responsibilities include lifting to make wheelchair transfers, assisting with bathroom needs, and performing simple medical tasks such as catheterization and trachea cleaning. Also assists during instruction and with A.P.E. activities, supports feeding and transportation (bus loading/unloading), and ensures the assigned child’s needs are met first, with potential to assist other students as needed. Employment follows the assigned child from year-to-year per I.E.P. guidelines; positions are hired by the Special Education Department and supervised by the Principal/Director of Special Education. Term is nine months; salary follows the paraprofessional salary schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent diploma
- Must be hired with the ability to meet the needs of the specific child i.e., ability to lift to make wheelchair transfers, assist with bathroom needs, and perform simple medical tasks such as catheterization, trachea cleaning
- Meet one of the following eligibility requirements: Associate degree; At least 48 college credit hours; OR Pass the Para-Pro Assessment
