Job Summary
Child Protective Services Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) in La Grande, OR, joining the Oregon Department of Human Services. Responsible for responding to referrals to determine abuse/neglect, interviewing parents and children, assessing home safety, gathering collateral information, documenting case details, arranging medical evaluations and substitute care, and presenting testimony in court. Requires a bachelor’s degree in human services or related field (or an equivalent combination of degree and experience), a valid driver's license, and ability to conduct trauma-informed practice, thorough documentation, and participate in mandatory background checks and on-call rotations. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services with 1 year of Human Services related experience, or an associate degree with 2 years of Human Services related experience, or completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Experience or ability to use trauma-informed practices
- Clear documentation and ability to present/testify in court
- Ability to gather information from various stakeholders (parents, children, school personnel, doctors, therapists, law enforcement)
- Ability to fulfill documentation requirements and enter information into databases
- Ability to arrange medical evaluations and substitute care placements for children
- Compliance with background checks and DHS I-9/E-Verify processes
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and frequent travel
