Job Summary

Assist with food preparation, serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements, and maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices. Prepare and serve food as directed by kitchen work schedule, rotate into all positions including meat, vegetable, salads, pastry, and cash register, and help serve food according to production sheet and manager instructions. Assist with cleaning kitchen and food preparation area after meals, wash pots and pans, operate dishwasher, and keep kitchen and cafeteria areas clean and sanitary. Store and handle food items safely, maintain organized storage areas, and report unsafe conditions to your immediate supervisor. Work cooperatively with all personnel and students, complete designated district technology proficiencies, and maintain consistent professional demeanor and appearance.

Required Qualifications

  • Food Handlers Certificate required (certificate to be obtained within 7 days of employment)
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
  • Ability to understand food preparation, cleaning, and safety procedures
  • Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
  • Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment, tools and cleaning equipment
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations
  • Ability to understand instructions and communicate in basic English
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, recipes, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
  • Ability to perform manual skills necessary for food service work
  • Ability to use a personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
  • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate effectively (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute, analyze, differentiate
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Ability to lift, moderate, 15-44 pounds
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
  • Work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
  • Work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience in food service work, preferred
