Job Summary
Assist the child and family in adjusting to hospitalization by providing pre/post procedural teachings, emotional support, and developmentally appropriate play activities. Conduct formal and informal developmental assessments of psychosocial needs within 24 hours of consult and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop individualized plans of care. Prioritize patients based on Association of Child Life Professional guidelines, organize daily routines, and manage deadlines for assigned projects. Serve as a backup preceptor for practicum students and unit preceptor for new hires once competencies are met. Establish healthy therapeutic relationships with patients and families while utilizing clinical decision-making processes to achieve desired outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or related field
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS)
- American Heart Association AED certification
- Completion of Child Life internship following the Association of Child Life Professionals current standards
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to resolve problems requiring the use of child developmental theory, professional child life principles and experience-based knowledge
- Basic knowledge of procedures, illnesses, injuries, and other related events on a nursing unit
- Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate when delivering Child Life services
- Well-developed writing skills
- Excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member
