Job Summary
Child Life Specialist certified at Geisinger Medical Center plans, develops, and provides pediatric child life programming in a clinical area. Uses age-appropriate play to support normal growth and development, educates patients and families, and prepares children for medical procedures. Leads coping strategies through play, teaches and communicates with families, and collaborates with staff to integrate Child Life services. Responsibilities include designing and implementing interventions, providing consultation to healthcare workers on developmental and behavioral issues, supervising Child Life volunteers, coordinating in-services, documenting interventions in the patient’s medical record, and contributing to a therapeutic and safe play environment. Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, completion of an ACLP-accredited internship (minimum 600 hours), and eligibility for professional certification by ACLP. Expected to work days in a clinical setting with a full benefits package and relocation assistance for qualified candidates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Education, Psychology, or related field
- Completion of a Child Life Internship (minimum 600 hours)
- Certification Eligibility: must meet requirements to be eligible for professional certification by the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP)
