Job Summary
Provides a comprehensive animal assisted therapy program with a facility dog to support emotional, developmental, and social needs of pediatric patients; duties include coordinating safe therapeutic animal assisted therapy, supervising the facility dog and other animals in the program, conducting child life assessments, planning developmentally appropriate interventions, collaborating with health care teams, promoting family-centered care, and maintaining Child Life certification through ongoing professional development. Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, successful completion of an accredited internship, 600-hour clinical internship, and at least one year of experience as a Child Life Specialist; candidates must obtain CCLS within two years and BCLS certification.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, or related field
- Successful completion of internship meeting standards set by the Association of Child Life Specialists
- Clinical internship minimum of 600 hours under supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist
- Minimum of one year experience as a Child Life Specialist
- CCLS - Certified Child Life Specialist within two years of hire date
- BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
