Job Summary

Required Qualifications

• •High School diploma or equivalent
• •Associate's degree in early childhood education or related area
• •CDA (Child Development Associate)
• •10 hours or 1 college quarter credit of nature-based education training approved by DELC
• •One year of relevant experience
• •15 credit hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
• •Good oral communication skills
• •First Aid certification
• •Food handler's care
• •Enrollment in the Department of Early Learning and Care Central Background Registry
• •Knowledge of current principles, practices and methods of nature-based and early childhood education
• •Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies and practices governing child care programs
• •Knowledge of general health and wellness of children
• •Knowledge of assessment and program evaluation techniques
• •Knowledge of contemporary office practices, procedures and equipment
• •Knowledge of recordkeeping techniques
• •Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques and methods
• •Ability to implement age-appropriate curriculum to foster growth and development
• •Ability to administer effective child development center policies and procedures
• •Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
• •Ability to provide basic nutrition and hygiene services for infants and young children
• •Ability to possess and demonstrate the required level of proficiency in desktop computers and other assigned software or electronic resources
• •Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
• •Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
• •Ability to lift and carry toddlers and small children
• •Ability to bend and squat to children's level
• •Ability to set up the classroom and playground equipment
• •Ability to carry supplies
• •Ability to adjust and adapt moving between various classrooms and a variety of ages
• •Ability to handle work pressure, disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule
• •Ability to upgrade skills when changes in the performance environment occur
• •Ability to work in somewhat disagreeable conditions requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards, noise and temperature
• •Ability to work outdoors during class time
• •Ability to work in an academic year schedule from September through June
• •Ability to work a 40 hours a week schedule
• •Ability to work part time FTE for the full year
• •Ability to establish residence in Oregon or Washington
• •Ability to complete a criminal background check
• •Ability to work under the direction of the Sr. Child Development Specialist
• •Ability to guide and oversee children, ages three years through five years
• •Ability to facilitate and provide guidance for developmentally appropriate learning activities
• •Ability to work collaboratively with the Sr. Child Development Specialist during the assessment of children by observation
• •Ability to monitor interactions in the lab for safety and intervene if necessary
• •Ability to maintain and set up lab equipment and outdoor learning equipment
• •Ability to monitor equipment use
• •Ability to clean up the lab and outdoor classroom after activities
• •Ability to assist with program students in the lab by modeling and providing feedback on appropriate behavior with children and helping with projects
• •Ability to assist Sr. Child Development Specialist in keeping accurate lab records
• •Ability to participate in Center-wide planning, facilities use, and program coordination
• •Ability to establish and maintain relationships with parents, including assisting with orientations and providing daily feedback
• •Ability to provide direction to casual staff and interns
• •Ability to assume responsibilities of Sr. Child Development Specialist in their absence
