Job Summary
Provide personal care to children, including toileting, diaper changing, first aid, and administering medication. Actively engage with children to ensure supervision and safety in groups of up to 15 while planning and implementing play-based learning according to the YMCA Curriculum. Maintain positive communication with families, staff, and volunteers while supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviors. Adhere to work schedules to maintain program ratios and provide adequate notice for unexpected changes. This role requires ongoing availability for opening or closing shifts between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a minimum of 18 years of age and current First Aid and CPR certification. Required Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
- Required availability: ongoing for a minimum of one of the following: (a) Two (2) shifts per week, consisting of opening shifts (minimum availability 6:30–9:30 a.m.) and/or closing shifts (minimum availability 2:30–6:00 p.m.); or (b) Two (2) full days per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; or (c) One (1) full day per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p...
- Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
- Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
