Job Summary
Provide personal care to children, including toileting, diaper changing, first aid, and administering medication while monitoring dietary needs and allergies. Actively engage with children in a group setting of up to 15 independently, ensuring supervision and safety. Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with the YMCA Curriculum and maintain positive communication with families, staff, and volunteers. Demonstrate appropriate behaviors supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviors or additional needs. Adhere to work schedules to ensure program ratios are met and provide adequate notice for unexpected changes.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
- Required availability: ongoing for a minimum of one of the following: (a) Two (2) shifts per week, consisting of opening shifts (minimum availability 6:30–9:30 a.m.) and/or closing shifts (minimum availability 2:30–6:00 p.m.); or (b) Two (2) full days per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; or (c) One (1) full day per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p...
- Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
- Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
