Job Summary
Lead the Child Care Shift by providing overall shift responsibility for a safe, therapeutic, and culturally sensitive environment for children in residential care. Chair daily pre-shift meetings to set plans for recreation, visitation, transportation, and medication management, then ensure child care workers adhere to individual treatment plans and supervision protocols. Provide leadership to staff through biweekly feedback sessions, identify environmental issues requiring corrective action, and coordinate intakes and referrals into the program. Ensure meals and snacks are prepared and served as scheduled, verify medication administration per policy, and complete all required agency trainings and documentation. Maintain compliance with labor standards, agency policies, and the Seven Commitments of our Sanctuary Model while following mandated reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum high school or equivalency diploma
- Valid New York State Driver License
- Commitment to following and embracing the Seven Commitments of our Sanctuary Model
- Ability to form positive relationships with children
- Ability to understand and respond to children's basic developmental needs
- Ability to understand and follow agency policy and Trauma Informed Care orientation
- Ability for role model and teach appropriate behavior to children
- Understanding of basic needs and developmental issues of children in a way that promotes growth and respects individuality
- Follows mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect
- Practices infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures
- Uses knowledge of developmental milestones, assists children in participating at their individual level of interest and ability
- Uses observation as a way to 'get to know' children —their interests and developmental levels
- Interacts with children during meal and snack times, promoting appropriate social behavior
- Applies knowledge of child development to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and environments
- Adapts activities and environments to meet the special needs and situations of individual children
- Identifies developmentally appropriate behavior and reasonable expectations for children's behavior
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times
- Demonstrate ability to provide leadership for staff
- Demonstrate ability to critically think and respond appropriately to stressful situations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
