Child and Youth Worker - YouThrive - Contract until December 2026

Job Summary

Conduct daily site operations including supervision of staff, participants, and volunteers while monitoring youth safety in accordance with organizational policies. Coordinate and facilitate weekly life skills programming, deliver informal counseling, and act as a positive role model for youth within the community. Advocate for clients by connecting them with internal and external resources, resolving conflicts through mediation, and facilitating community partnerships with agencies and councils. Manage program logistics by setting up equipment, maintaining clean facilities, and liaising with parents, donors, and community partners. Complete mandatory documentation, statistical reporting, and gift card expenditures while reporting critical incidents to leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma child/youth related field (eg. Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or Students* currently in their 3rd/4th year of Post-Secondary studies (College/University) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
  • Minimum two years' experience required working with at risk youth and/or street involved people.
  • Advanced knowledge of issues relating to activities of street involved people and knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Possesses strong personal ethics and integrity, as well as, exceptional interpersonal skills, including influencing, consensus/team building, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, management, leadership, motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring, and empowerment.
  • Sound judgment, decision making, and problem solving ability with the willingness to stand behind and take responsibility for decisions and actions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, community agencies and the public.
  • Effective communicator, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff, the public and clients while maintaining objectivity.
  • Case management skills including record keeping, client service, building capacity through team approach.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively.
  • Experience with MS Office, with the ability to prepare, and write reports and maintain same.
  • Current Broad Record Check (criminal background check).
  • Car and valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract, insurance liability coverage at $2,000,000.

Desired Qualifications

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
  • Speaking and writing French is an asset.
