Job Summary
Chief Scientist for the Magnets vertical within SandboxAQ’s Chemical Simulation group. Define the scientific strategy and technical roadmap for magnet materials, build and lead a multidisciplinary team of researchers and postdocs, and drive the integration of computational materials discovery, multi-scale modeling, and AI to accelerate magnet development. Lead external engagements with national labs and industrial partners, translate constraints into well-posed scientific problems, oversee DBTL workflows, guide dataset strategy and IP development, and shape the external scientific narrative through publications and conferences. Collaborate with Platform Engineering and DataGen Research to align magnetism-focused LQM capabilities with manufacturing processes, including powder metallurgy, sintering, and heat-treatment, and work with commercial teams to identify licensing opportunities for novel IP.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline
- 7+ years of post-PhD leadership in scientific programs in magnetic materials (principal scientist, fellow, or director level)
- Demonstrated ability to translate first-principles, multi-scale, and ML-driven modeling into manufacturable magnet formulations
- Track record of building and leading multidisciplinary scientific teams and shaping research roadmaps
- Outstanding external scientific presence: publications and patents
