Job Summary
Chief of Staff role at a mission-driven nonprofit, partnering with the ED and CTO to build scalable internal systems, oversee operational, financial, and administrative duties, and serve as a primary problem-solver for organizational challenges. Responsibilities include driving strategic alignment, organizational design, governance, and cross-functional workflow optimization; overseeing remote workplace platforms (Slack and Asana); managing multiple teams and contractors; guiding executive communications; coordinating financial stewardship for a $5M+ budget; ensuring regulatory compliance and partnership support; leading complex, high-stakes projects and cross-departmental initiatives; and contributing to fundraising and DEI reporting. Compensation includes a $140,000 base salary, remote work with a preference for IL/TX/CA/MD, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- A highly adaptable operator who can work in an ambiguous, outcome-driven environment
- Experience in fundraising and managing annual budgets of over $5 million
- Effective project management with success executing complex projects and managing multiple stakeholders
- Skilled at translating complex processes to colleagues, funders, clients, and partners
- Strong communication and leadership abilities for an executive-level partner role
- Experience in the public aid or food stamps field is a plus
- Ability to oversee cross-functional operations and multiple managers (Operations Manager, Client Support Manager, Project Manager, and contractors)
- Experience with governance, policy, and organizational design to scale a growing nonprofit
