Job Summary
Chief Mate oversees the Deck department, ensuring safe stowage, planning, loading, and maintenance of cargo and ship systems; acts as Person-in-Charge of the emergency response team; serves as training, damage control, and security officer; maintains safety programs and provides guidance on navigational procedures. Requires USCG license/certificate, high school diploma, ability to obtain SECRET clearance, and compliance with security credentials (passport, TWIC, CAC). Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, and leadership abilities, with capability to manage safety, security, and regulatory requirements on vessel operations.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Coast Guard license/certificate requirements: STCW; Mate Between 500GT and 3000GT; OICNW; Able Seafarer-Deck; RFPNW; PSC; Medical care Provider; ADV FF; Basic Training; GMDSS Operator; ECDIS; VSO
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Active SECRET clearance
- United States Passport
- TWIC
- CAC
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and shipboard monitoring software
- Ability to plan, organize, and complete work assignments
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to adhere to regulations and safety procedures
- Background check and drug testing as mandated by USCG
