Job Summary
Chief Innovation Officer leads citywide innovation strategies to improve public services, modernize legacy systems with emerging technologies (AI, data analytics, automation), and drive measurable outcomes. Responsibilities include piloting new technologies, coordinating across departments, building innovation ecosystems via partnerships with startups, universities, and civic organizations, securing funding from grants, promoting data-driven governance, and ensuring cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory compliance. Requires Bachelor’s degree, 8+ years in innovation/project management (local government preferred), strong analytical and communication skills, familiarity with design thinking, and ability to engage diverse stakeholders and communities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in innovation, project management, or related fields, preferably within local government
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with design thinking and innovation methodologies
- Proficiency in project management and data analysis software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to attend community meetings and events outside regular business hours
- Knowledge of local government operations and community engagement strategies
- Ability to build partnerships with startups, technology vendors, universities, and civic organizations
- Experience developing performance metrics and dashboards to track ROI of initiatives
- Experience leading cross-departmental innovation initiatives
- Knowledge of cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory standards
