Job Summary
The Chief Housing Officer (CHO) is a C Suite executive responsible for oversight of all housing residences and programs, including homeless shelters and affordable housing initiatives. This role requires extensive experience in the nonprofit housing and human services sector in New York. The CHO will collaborate with executive leadership to implement a Strategic Housing Action Plan, develop key partnerships, represent CHI at community events, and ensure compliance with various housing-related metrics and regulations. Responsibilities include supervising senior management, advancing housing placement initiatives, leading quality improvement systems, and developing innovative services that support client independence. The role demands strong leadership capabilities, strategic vision, and a commitment to quality service delivery.
Required Qualifications
- At least twenty (20) years of extensive executive level experience overseeing a large housing/homeless portfolio
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience at the Senior Vice President or higher level; or five (5) years at Assistant or Deputy Commissioner level or above with proven track record of extensive supervisory experience; including supervising vice presidents and multiple sites
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
- Master’s degree
Desired Qualifications
- Intermediate or expert level proficiency in MS Office products
- Strong leadership, management, administrative, organizational, interpersonal, verbal communication, and writing and presentation skills
