Job Summary
Chief Forensic Pathologist responsible for Medical Examiner and forensic pathology services across Mecklenburg County and two additional regional counties. Performs autopsies and external examinations, issues death certificates, testifies in court, and serves as department director developing policies and procedures in compliance with state statutes. Oversees pathology staff, including pathologists, investigators, and technical personnel; coordinates with hospital transplant teams; ensures safety and regulatory compliance; provides educational talks; and contributes to budget and strategic planning. Requires graduation from an accredited medical school with residency in anatomic pathology (AP) or AP/CP, fellowship in forensic pathology, and active North Carolina medical licensure with board certification in AP/AP-CP or equivalent. 5+ years of autopsy/ME experience with supervisory responsibilities preferred; detailed knowledge of vital statistics, laboratory operations, and rules of evidence. Proficiency in writing technical court-ready reports and in relevant computer programs; ability to liaise with criminal justice system and community stakeholders.
