Job Summary
Executive CFO/COO responsible for company-wide strategic planning, financial stewardship, and operational leadership across public-sector and private construction projects in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Partners with ownership and senior leadership to translate strategy into execution, maintain strong financial controls, drive operational excellence, risk management, and scalable growth. Responsibilities include leading strategic planning, budgeting, cash flow management, GAAP-compliant financial practices, WIP and project cost reporting, audits, bonding and insurance programs, and enterprise risk management; overseeing preconstruction, estimating, project management, scheduling, and controls; driving KPIs for margins and labor productivity; ensuring compliance with public procurement requirements and payroll certifications; leading HR and ERP/system deployments; and mentoring department heads to develop future leaders.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction, with a strong background in general contracting and significant exposure to public-sector work
- Proven experience managing companies in the $50M–$150M revenue range
- Deep understanding of job costing, construction accounting, WIP reporting, bonding, insurance, and public procurement
- Demonstrated success leading multi-department organizations
- Strong financial acumen combined with operational credibility
- Preferred CPA, CCIFP, or equivalent financial credential
- Experience in RI/MA construction markets
- Background in non-union worker in the public sector and labor relations
- Experience working directly with owners
- Leadership competencies: strategic thinker, decisive, accountable, detail-oriented, high integrity, clear communicator
- Comfortable balancing long-term strategy with day-to-day execution
