Job Summary
Lead the district's senior financial leadership team by advising the Superintendent and Board of Education on fiscal planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives. Direct all financial operations including annual operating and capital budget development, general ledger maintenance, payroll processing, and grant fund accounting. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while overseeing internal controls, risk management, and the annual independent financial audit. Supervise Finance Department personnel and school-based bookkeepers, fostering a culture of fiscal integrity and operational excellence. Collaborate with school leaders to maximize resources and support student achievement through sustainable financial strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible financial management experience
- Experience developing and managing organizational budgets and supervising financial personnel
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Experience in public school finance or governmental accounting
- Experience with North Carolina public school finance practices
- North Carolina School Business Administrator Certification or willingness to obtain
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), or other related professional certification
- Extensive knowledge of governmental accounting principles and public-school finance practices
- Knowledge of North Carolina public school funding allotments, budget codes, and financial reporting requirements
- Knowledge of federal grant management and compliance requirements
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Ability to interpret and apply financial regulations, policies, and procedures
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Ability to establish collaborative relationships with district leaders, school administrators, auditors, and stakeholders
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Proficiency with financial management systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Occasional evening and weekend work
