Job Summary
Lead the district's senior financial leadership team by advising the Superintendent and Board on budgeting, fiscal planning, and all financial operations. Direct the development and monitoring of annual operating, capital, and grant budgets while overseeing accounting functions, payroll, purchasing, and internal controls. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations by coordinating independent audits and managing restricted funds. Supervise finance personnel, including payroll specialists and accounts payable clerks, and foster a culture of fiscal responsibility and transparency. Serve as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet to support strategic initiatives and communicate complex financial data to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible financial management experience
- Experience developing and managing organizational budgets and supervising financial personnel
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Experience in public school finance or governmental accounting
- Experience with North Carolina public school finance practices
- North Carolina School Business Administrator Certification or willingness to obtain
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), or other related professional certification
- Extensive knowledge of governmental accounting principles and public-school finance practices
- Knowledge of North Carolina public school funding allotments, budget codes, and financial reporting requirements
- Knowledge of federal grant management and compliance requirements
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Ability to interpret and apply financial regulations, policies, and procedures
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Ability to establish collaborative relationships with district leaders, school administrators, auditors, and stakeholders
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Proficiency with financial management systems and Microsoft Office applications
