Job Summary
Chief – Environmental Projects role in NYC DEP’s Bureau of Water Supply (Valhalla, NY and Kingston, NY). Associate Project Manager III will oversee EHS programs, monitor proposed regulations, and develop implementation plans. Responsibilities include supervising staff on asbestos management (ACM/PACM), managing emergency response contracts for the watershed, coordinating the Agency Asbestos Task Force, acting as primary regulatory advisor on EHS regulations, supporting demolition and land-use permit activities, tracking regulatory proposals, and providing comments to regulators. The role requires travel to DEP facilities across the NYC watershed, including NYC facilities and upstate sites, with a focus on ensuring ongoing compliance and effective communication with regulators (EPA, NYS DOH, NYS DEC). The position emphasizes regulatory expertise, interpretation, guidance, project management of large/successful projects, and collaboration with agency meetings. Required Qualifications
- One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work, for engineering/architectural/landscape projects, or supervising a construction project of $1,000,000+ (as described in the job description).
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, plus one year of relevant project management supervisory experience; OR
- Four-year high school diploma with five years of qualifying experience; OR
- Combination of college education and experience to achieve five years total; Additional credits for master's degree, Juris Doctor, or professional engineering/architect/landscape licenses; And at least one additional year of supervisory/project management experience for assignment level I; OR two additional years for higher qualification levels.
