Job Summary
The Chief Engineer oversees the efficient operation of all building systems, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, drainage, plumbing, and security/fire/life safety. Responsibilities include supervising engineers and maintenance staff, reviewing work orders, monitoring compliance, formulating preventive maintenance programs, and managing energy management initiatives. Qualified candidates should have 10 years of experience in building operations, including at least 7 years in maintenance at a commercial property, with strong technical knowledge in relevant systems. A trade school background and appropriate licenses are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Trade school trained
- Minimum of 10 years of building operations experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 7+ years building maintenance experience in a commercial property including supervisory experience
- Appropriate license/permit for trade such as Journeyman or Master Electrician License
- Experience in operation, maintenance and basic repair of HVAC systems, boilers, heaters
- Familiar with Energy Management Systems and fire alarm systems
- Knowledgeable in energy management systems and techniques
- Thorough knowledge in all building systems operations, maintenance and repair
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong customer service orientation
Additional Requirements
- May require shift work, overtime and/or on-call duties
- Frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs of equipment
