Chief Engineer- Shore Based

Job Summary
Lead and support Chief Engineer duties aboard vessels and dock facilities, performing preventive and routine maintenance, repairs on engines, pumps and motors, and assisting with technical tasks and paperwork. Collaborate with engineers and vendors to complete repairs underway or dockside, communicate standards and policies to crews, and train junior engineers while identifying improvements. Maintain safety practices, troubleshoot problems, and ensure efficient operations in a fast-paced environment aboard towboats or dock facilities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-3 years of engine room experience
- current and valid driver’s license
- proven leadership and interpersonal skills
- ability to safely operate aboard a vessel and follow safety guidelines
- ability to work in fast-paced environments and respond to safety concerns
- mechanical and electrical skills for repairing/maintaining vessels
- knowledge of welding, plumbing, electrical, carpentry concepts
- ability to communicate with vessel engineers and vendors
- ability to train junior engineers and mentor teammates
- availability to live/work aboard towboat or dock facility for extended periods
- physical ability to perform duties including lifting up to 70 pounds, climbing, and confined spaces
- English language proficiency for emergency instructions
- problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
