Job Summary
Contribute technical output in electrical, mechanical, and software design fields while assessing the quality of engineering work to prevent over-engineering and eliminate overly complex approaches. Guide testing efforts on multiple programs to ensure robust and reliable products, and support the creation and presentation of customer deliverables and certification documents for SFR, SRR, PDR, and CDR phases. Engage in hands-on design, troubleshooting, and problem-solving as needed, asserting lessons learned and proven design elements in new products. Write proposals for SBIR grants and support the costing of non-SBIR proposals. Mentor the engineering team by offering exemplary work product examples and setting expectations to achieve the best work product. This on-site role in Torrance, CA, drives successful execution of key technical efforts for DoD applications with a focus on pragmatic, simplified solutions that maintain high quality and agility.
Required Qualifications
- BS from an accredited institution in an engineering discipline
- 20+ years of working experience in an engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience in aerospace, defense electronics, mission systems, or related high-reliability domains
- Strong hands-on experience in designing and troubleshooting electronic, electromechanical, and/or software systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems engineering skills
- Collaborative and adaptable, able to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting to customers, program managers, and technical teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency, or other status as a U.S. Person as defined by 8 USC 1324b(a)(3)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience writing proposals for SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) grants
- Experience supporting the writing and costing of non-SBIR proposals
- Experience guiding testing efforts on MIL-STD-810, 461, 704, DO-178, or similar standards
- Experience supporting creation and presentation of customer deliverables including documents, artifacts, and presentations required for SFR, SRR, PDR, CDR, or certification documents
- Experience engaging in hands-on design, troubleshooting, and problem-solving in areas of expertise
- Experience asserting lessons learned and proven design elements in new designs and products
- Comfort working at a lab bench, in a design review, and in a room with a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) or Program Manager discussing schedule and cost
