Job Summary
Chief Engineer responsibilities include leading the Engineering department for the hotel, supervising and training engineering staff, and overseeing operation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems. The role entails scheduling and performing work per the preventive maintenance program, ensuring safety equipment compliance and city/state codes, handling chemicals per hotel requirements, conducting emergency repairs, maintaining tools, and enforcing hotel standards. It requires budget oversight for the department, interview/hiring/training of staff, and ensuring safe, secure, and comfortable environments for guests and staff. Qualifications include a high school graduate or equivalent, minimum two years’ hotel maintenance engineering experience with supervisory exposure, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and schematics; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, safety codes, OSHA practices, and strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Minimum two years’ experience as a hotel maintenance engineer
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and safety codes relevant to hotel operations
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to communicate with guests, management, and co-workers
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Experience with safety equipment inspections and chemical handling
