Job Summary
Chief Engineer to lead the design, construction, and activation of Hermeus’ HEAT airbreathing propulsion test facility in Jacksonville, FL. Serves as the technical authority for end-to-end facility development from concept through commissioning and operational readiness, working with internal teams, external contractors, and DoD stakeholders to ensure propulsion testing needs are met. Responsibilities include facility design and architecture (air plant, test cells, airflow, instrumentation, data acquisition, safety systems, support infrastructure), program and technical leadership of cross-functional engineering teams, acquisition strategy and contractor oversight, stakeholder engagement with government and test customers, risk and quality management, and futureproofing through evaluation of emerging technologies. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering (master’s/PhD preferred), 10+ years in propulsion test facilities, the ability to lead complex systems integration, and the ability to obtain/maintain a TS security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field (master’s or PhD preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in design, development, or operation of propulsion test facilities, aerospace infrastructure, or similar test facility/infrastructure
- Strong leadership and ability to direct cross-functional engineering teams (civil, mechanical, electrical, aerospace, systems)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance (TS preferred)
- Experience with safety standards, DoD/NASA aerospace test procedures
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale engineering projects
- Strong understanding of airbreathing propulsion systems (turbojet, ramjet, scramjet, TBCC) and testing environments
