Job Summary
Lead an organized strategic planning process to create an integrated Development & Communications Plan with measurable goals, benchmarks, and tracking methods. Mobilize a department of three to four staff members to raise $40 million in philanthropic revenue by increasing major donors, implementing effective stewardship, improving event ROI, and establishing a planned giving program. Secure trust with the Dean, board, and campaign committee while designing a mission-centered donor recognition program to deepen relationships with current and prospective donors. Directly manage two director-level positions and an Office Manager to establish a culture of collaboration, excellence, and accountability. Ensure compliance with university fundraising policies, laws, and regulations while providing regular reports on progress toward revenue and non-revenue goals.
Required Qualifications
- Experience leading a department of three staff
- Experience mobilizing a department to raise $40 million in philanthropic revenue
- Ability to promote a resilient, revenue-oriented culture centered on market-driven targets
- Ability to cultivate high-capacity donors on a consistent basis
- Ability to lead an organized and strategic planning process for the department
- Ability to create and implement a creative, mission-centered, standout donor recognition and stewardship program
- Ability to ensure the implementation of inspiring, memorable and scalable donor engagement strategies
- Ability to effectively manage the implementation of new systems, and the revision of existing systems
- Ability to design and implement a multi-year development and communications strategy
- Ability to reduce donor churn and increase philanthropic revenue to $20 million within two years and $40 million in four years
- Ability to oversee and provide motivating, can-do leadership to a department of four
- Ability to directly manage two director level positions and one Office Manager
- Ability to establish and maintain a culture of collaboration, communication, excellence and accountability within the department
- Ability to provide reports to appropriate staff on a regularly scheduled timeline highlighting progress toward all revenue and non-revenue goals
- Ability to establish and monitor progress toward goals and performance measures
- Ability to ensure the department runs efficiently and has a strong infrastructure with all the necessary systems and procedures
- Ability to collaborate with senior staff members on annual planning, budgeting and other relevant university-wide initiatives
- Ability to ensure compliance with university fundraising policies, goals and procedures as-well-as compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Thorough understanding of institution's values, history, culture, traditions, programs, personalities, constituencies and governance structure
- Understanding of its base of financial support and the short and long-term funding requirements of all segments of the organization
