Job Summary
Design, recommend, and execute a comprehensive annual fundraising plan aligned with organizational policies. Spearhead operational execution of innovative fundraising activities while staying abreast of industry best practices to ensure compliant giving opportunities. Formulate the annual department budget and maintain strict fiscal management throughout the year. Participate in high-level solicitation of major contributions and design a sophisticated prospect identification program to build a robust pipeline. Establish a donor relations program to sustain meaningful contact with past, current, and prospective donors. Maintain an active presence within the greater Williamsburg community by attending civic and service organizations' events. Partner with the Chief Financial Officer to establish rigorous financial controls and coordinate the receipt and proper allocation of all philanthropic gifts. Oversee the preparation of accurate tax acknowledgement letters and provide regular progress reports to the CEO and Development Committee. Plan and oversee the creation of promotional materials, host annual educational events, and activate specialized fundraising task forces from volunteer groups.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field
- Five or more (5+) years of progressive leadership experience in development and fundraising roles
- Proven track record of success in major gift cultivation
- Specialized expertise in planned giving
- Specialized expertise in deferred giving
- Specialized expertise in capital campaigns
- In-depth knowledge of modern development and philanthropy best practices
- In-depth knowledge of institutional funding sources
- In-depth knowledge of the complex tax and legal implications of various gift vehicles
- Strategic thinker capable of exercising sound professional judgment
- Advanced proficiency with donor databases/fundraising management software
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Advanced proficiency with Google Workspace
- Exceptional ability to build authentic, high-trust relationships
- Exceptional ability to anticipate the needs of executive leadership and Board members
- Exceptional ability to serve as an articulate ambassador to residents and community partners
