Job Summary
Executive-level chief role overseeing all jail operations, inmate services, security, staffing, budgeting, compliance (including PREA), and rehabilitation programming for the Portsmouth City Jail. Leads and directs detention facility operations, emergency response, facility maintenance, budget development, and personnel management; represents the Sheriff's Office with governmental entities and professional associations; requires extensive leadership experience in correctional environments and a Bachelor's in a related field. Must ensure lawful, safe, and efficient operations with a focus on evidence-based programming and reentry practices.
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Jail Manager (CJM)
- Certified Corrections Manager (CCM)
- Virginia Jailer Certification (VADOC/VADCJS)
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field
- 10+ years of supervisory or managerial experience including 5+ years in jail administration
- 2+ years of executive-level leadership experience in a correctional environment
