Chief Child Services Attorney in Paoli, Indiana, operating with a high level of independence to oversee litigation related to Child in Need of Services, Termination of Parental Rights, foster care, and related matters. Responsibilities include supervising staff, recruiting and training employees, coordinating with Central Office and external partners (courts, CASA/GAL, public defenders), advising on program and legal areas, monitoring regional caseloads and performance metrics, providing litigation pleadings and discovery, and ensuring quality standards and adherence to procedures. Requires Doctorate of Jurisprudence and Indiana Bar admission (or equivalent with eligibility to obtain temporary foreign license status), plus extensive knowledge of federal/state/local laws, Rules of Evidence, Indiana Rules of Court, ethics, and court procedures. Exempt from overtime with potential for long hours; location in Paoli, IN with service to Orange County and surrounding counties.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate of Jurisprudence (JD)
  • Indiana Bar Admission with license in good standing OR admission to the bar of any state in the US with license in good standing and willingness to obtain temporary foreign license status under Indiana Rules for Admissions to the Bar (Rule 6.1)
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing agency functions
  • Thorough knowledge of Rules of Evidence and Indiana Rules of Court
  • Advanced knowledge of state's court system and law enforcement agencies
  • Advanced knowledge of legal resources and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of Rules of Ethics and Code of Professional Responsibility
  • Ability to communicate articulately for Court proceedings
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in crisis situations
  • Ability to delegate work, set direction, and manage workflow
  • Ability to provide feedback, coaching and professional development
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Supervisory responsibilities over incarcerated individuals
