Chicago - Ocean Import Specialist

Manage end-to-end coordination of ocean import shipments from booking confirmation through final delivery, ensuring timely and compliant movement of cargo. Review and process import documentation (bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin) to verify accuracy prior to customs filing. Proactively communicate with overseas agents, steamship lines, and port authorities to track vessel arrivals, resolve exceptions, and manage container availability. Coordinate customs clearance activities with the brokerage team and provide complete shipment data to facilitate entry filing and release. Arrange inland transportation and last-mile delivery, negotiating rates and scheduling with trucking partners to meet client delivery windows. Monitor demurrage and detention timelines and minimize costs while communicating exposure to clients and internal stakeholders. Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing proactive status updates and serving as a knowledgeable point of contact for ocean import inquiries.
