Job Summary

Lead interactive chess classes for 10–15 energetic elementary students using a structured curriculum to teach fundamentals, sportsmanship, and critical thinking. Manage lively classrooms with confidence while following strict school safety protocols for supervision during arrival, dismissal, and activities. Travel to various local school sites in Lake Forest, CA, arriving prepared to engage students within the 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM window. Teach a flexible schedule of 1 to 5 classes per week, with mileage reimbursement for trips exceeding 15 miles one way. Complete summer onboarding and training before active teaching assignments commence in the fall.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar)
  • Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, friendly, and fun sessions
  • Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor
  • Genuine desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship
  • Strong grasp of chess fundamentals
  • Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life problem-solving
  • Reliable personal transportation and the ability to drive between locations
  • Availability on weekday afternoons, with class start times falling within the 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM window, to teach 1–5 classes per week
  • Commitment to implementing school safety protocols to protect students' well-being
  • Strong punctuality and time-management skills
  • Candidates must be currently residing in Lake Forest, CA or be willing to relocate at their own expense
