Job Summary
Cooks meals according to established recipes and menus, presenting dishes that are nutritious, tasty, and professionally prepared for senior residents. Assists the Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet nutritional needs and accommodates food preferences, including special meals for restricted diets. Prepares daily and next-day ingredients, cleans kitchen equipment, and maintains sanitary guidelines while ensuring proper temperatures in storage units. Takes resident orders, provides drink refills, and resets dining rooms between mealtimes. Maintains an organized, safe storeroom and coolers, wears a clean uniform, and communicates with staff to ensure adequate daily coverage. Requires high school education, culinary training, and health certification to work independently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Appropriate health certification as required by local state and federal health departments
- Must possess education that provides skills to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and procedures
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to read and follow directions and recipes
- Must be able to work independently and prioritize workload as emergencies arise
- Must show compassion and genuinely care for the elderly
- Must be knowledgeable of the location of the MSDS sheets on hazardous materials and able to understand the guidelines
Desired Qualifications
- Culinary training
