Job Summary
Greet customers with a smile, operate the cash register accurately, and process all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, and food stamps. Scan products, count change, issue receipts, and handle cash refunds or credits for returned merchandise while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines for WIC, food stamps, and tobacco sales. Place merchandise in bags, stock shelves, clean the register area, and verify register balances at the start and end of shifts. Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and store policies while reporting to work on time.
Required Qualifications
- Night & Weekend Shifts Required
- ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
- ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
- ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
- exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
- frequent exposure to temperature extremes and possible dampness
- occasional exposure to equipment movement hazards and cleaning chemicals or solvents
- Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
- Report to work when scheduled and on time
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen

- Operate the cash register accurately, scanning product and processing all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, in-store charges, and lottery transactions
- Count back change, issue receipts, and provide cash refunds or credit memorandums for returned merchandise as needed
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC, food stamps, and the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets
- Place merchandise in bags or boxes, assist courtesy personnel, and support drive-up and carry-out service
- Stay knowledgeable of item look-up numbers, department numbers, item features, and weekly ad price changes and sale items
- Stock, face, and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, understand shelf tags, and take customers to items when requested
- Keep the register area clean, ensure adequate supplies are available, and report improper cash levels in the cash drawer
- Verify register balances at the beginning and end of each shift where applicable
- Communicate clearly on the intercom or telephone and answer customer questions, following up with appropriate personnel as needed
- Stay aware of your surroundings to support store safety and security
- Assist store management with displays and decorations for special promotions and events as needed
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
