Job Summary
Operate the cash register accurately, scanning products and processing all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, and food stamps. Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers, learning their names, and assisting with merchandise look-ups and shelf maintenance. Count back change, issue receipts, and verify register balances at the beginning and end of each shift. Stock, face, and rotate merchandise while maintaining strict adherence to Hy-Vee policies, dress standards, and personal hygiene guidelines. Report to work when scheduled and on time, following detailed instructions and communicating clearly with store management and other personnel.
Required Qualifications
- ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
- exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
- ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
- ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
- ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables
- ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
- ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
- ability to work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience
- ability to maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines

- ability to count back change, issue receipts, and provide cash refunds or credit memorandums for returned merchandise
- ability to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC, food stamps, and the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets
- ability to place merchandise in bags or boxes, assist courtesy personnel, and support drive-up and carry-out service
- ability to stay knowledgeable of item look-up numbers, department numbers, item features, and weekly ad price changes and sale items
- ability to stock, face, and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, understand shelf tags, and take customers to items when requested
- ability to keep the register area clean, ensure adequate supplies are available, and report improper cash levels in the cash drawer
- ability to verify register balances at the beginning and end of each shift where applicable
- ability to communicate clearly on the intercom or telephone and answer customer questions, following up with appropriate personnel as needed
- ability to stay aware of your surroundings to support store safety and security
- ability to assist store management with displays and decorations for special promotions and events as needed
