Job Summary
Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department oversees nursing staff and facilitates patient care across a unit during a shift. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing for posted positions, making recommendations to the Coordinator, helping develop staffing patterns, monitoring staff performance, coordinating staff meetings, identifying system problems, participating in budgeting analysis, ensuring availability of supplies, providing direction during emergencies, and teaching/educating other health care professionals. The role involves actively participating in patient care delivery, development and implementation of standards of care, participating in quality assurance activities, and contributing to discharge planning and multi-disciplinary conferences. Requires three years RN experience (one year in a clinical specialty), graduation from an accredited nursing program, and active RN license in the state of care, plus certifications including ACLS, BLS, PALS or ENP course, and NIH Stroke Scale within specified timelines. Preferred qualifications include a BSN and certifications such as CEN or TNCC, with emphasis on recognizing and interpreting cardiac dysrhythmias and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Three (3) years of Registered Nurse experience, one year in clinical specialty
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- High school diploma or GED
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire OR Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course within 6 months of hire
- Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Basic Life Support
- NIH Stroke Scale Certificate within 1 months of hire
