Job Summary
Assess and diagnose patient and family needs by performing admission assessments, verifying identities, and documenting allergies and NPO status. Develop realistic plans of care in collaboration with patients and families to address identified problems and discharge planning requirements. Implement medical plans of care by administering medications, initiating IV access, collecting specimens, and providing emotional support and comfort measures. Evaluate and reassess patient responses to care plans, modifying interventions as needed to ensure quality outcomes. Maintain accurate documentation of nursing care, discharge instructions, and unusual occurrences to integrate information for the healthcare team. Supervise staff assignments, ensure daily RN assessments are completed, and communicate problems involving personnel, medical staff, and patients to management.
Required Qualifications
- RN – Associate Degree
- Licensed in good standing with the Georgia Board of Nursing
- EKG Course
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- Ability to move freely, reach, bend, and complete light lifting
- Ability to use good body mechanics while performing daily job functions
- Ability to follow specific OSHA guidelines
- Ability to maintain attendance to meet standard job practices
- Attends 75% of scheduled unit conferences
- Attends 50% of Shared Governance meetings
- Proficient in Ultrasound IV insertion and care
- Full-time charge nurses will be required to work a 48/36 hour a week rotation
- Heavy: Exert 50 – 100 lb. of force occasionally and/or up to 30 lb. of force frequently - >75%
- Level I exposure to hazards (body fluid exposure level)
- Demonstrates the ability to rapidly assess the patient, differentiating between long and short-term needs
- Patients are discharged from the unit/department with consideration given to age and mobility
- Discharge instructions are thorough and clear
- Properly demonstrates ability to recognize cardiac rhythms and to treat arrhythmias appropriately
- Attends all required safety training programs
- Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment
- Attends annual education programs
- Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment
- Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations
- Maintains open communication using appropriate chain of command regarding issues
- Conducts all work activities with respect for rights and wishes of patients, visitors, families, and fellow employees
- Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times
- Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by hospital policy
- Practices within legal boundaries of nurse practice act and according to hospital policy and procedures
- Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure
- Attends hospital-sponsored training programs as required by department
- Reads and understands the English language
- Ability to think critically and analytically with little or no supervision
- Ability to work effectively in situations of high stress and conflict and communicate goals and outcomes
- Ability to process information and prioritize
- Possesses exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Possesses independent work habits, is self-reliant and self-directed

Desired Qualifications
- BSN - preferred but not required
- 1 - 2 years' experience preferred
