Job Summary
Part-Time Hospice Pastor/Chaplain provides emotional and spiritual support to hospice patients and families, conducting spiritual assessments, facilitating rituals, and offering grief and bereavement support. The role collaborates with the interdisciplinary hospice care team, documents spiritual care in patient records, develops staff training on spiritual care, and engages in community outreach to educate on hospice philosophy. Required credentials include ordained or licensed minister with strong theological foundation and ability to honor diverse faith traditions or none, along with excellent listening, confidentiality, and emotional intelligence in a crisis-aware, patient-centered care environment.
Required Qualifications
- Ordained or Licensed Minister with official ordination or licensure from a recognized religious body or denomination
- Strong theological foundation with understanding of religious texts and practices relevant to populations served
- Ability to respect and support people of various faith traditions or no faith
- Exceptional listening skills with non-judgmental, attentive communication
- Calm, grounded demeanor with steady presence in emotionally charged moments
- Understanding Hospice philosophy: comfort over cure, dignity, and patient-centered care
- Experience supporting anticipatory grief, family grief, and post-death bereavement
- Ability to address spiritual distress, meaning-making, forgiveness, reconciliation, and preparation for death
